Praveen Dixit - Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade Policy and Analysis,  U.S. Department of Commerce's  International Trade Administration

The Senate is hoping to move forward soon with passage of trade promotion authority for the executive branch, which would streamline passage of global agreements. While labor unions are opposed to fast-track authority because they argue it is bad for jobs and wages, the so-called fast-track authority is one of the few issues where Congress and the White House agree. Learn about the administration's championing of this authority and the progress of trade negotiations, and ask the questions you have about these important international trade issues.


In his position, Praveen Dixit is responsible for economic analysis, data collection and dissemination, and trade policy activities designed to increase U.S. exports of manufactured products and services. Prior to this appointment, Dixit was the Chief of the Asia and Western Hemisphere Branch and the Coordinator of the WTO Project at the Economic Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. In this capacity, he was responsible for providing guidance on Departmental decisions on issues of relevance to Asian and Latin American Agriculture and analytically supporting the Doha Round of trade negotiations. Dixit also spent three years in Nepal under USAID’s economic liberalization project and helped introduce several major policy reform initiatives. Originally from Nepal, he obtained his PhD from Purdue University.
